1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (Dutch-processed preferred)
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 ounces (1 ½ cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper
In a large bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract
Stir in cocoa powder until fully combined
Sprinkle flour, baking soda, and salt over the mixture. Fold gently until just combined (do not overmix)
Spread half the batter into the prepared pan
Sprinkle chocolate chips and walnuts evenly
Pour the remaining batter on top and gently swirl with a knife
Bake 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs
Cool completely before cutting into 16-24 pieces
