Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
Grease an 11×17-inch baking sheet and line with parchment paper
Sift and whisk flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a medium bowl
In a large bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Mix in vanilla extract and vinegar
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with buttermilk, then stir in boiling water
Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly
Bake for 25 minutes until edges are golden and center bounces back when touched
Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes
For the frosting: Beat softened butter until smooth
Gradually add powdered sugar, then cocoa powder and vanilla extract, followed by enough milk to achieve a spreadable consistency
Pour frosting over still-warm cake, spreading it evenly while it melts into the surface
