Ingredients
1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
8 cups filtered water
1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (from 2–3 large lemons)
Lemon slices (for garnish)
Mint sprigs (for garnish)
Instructions
Combine dried hibiscus flowers and 8 cups water in a pot.
Simmer over medium heat just until warm (avoid boiling).
Steep off heat for 10-15 minutes until a deep red color develops.
Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, discarding solids.
Add sugar to warm liquid and stir until dissolved.
Chill to room temperature then refrigerate until cold.
Serve with lemon slices, mint, and additional lemon juice to taste.
Notes
Use filtered water for best flavor
Adjust sugar to suit personal preference
Honey or agave can substitute sugar
Chilled drink lasts up to 3 days in fridge
