Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt
In a large bowl, cream butter until smooth
Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Alternately mix in dry ingredients with milk and vanilla
Pour batter into prepared pan
Bake 35 minutes or until center is firm
Cool completely before frosting
Notes
Use room temperature butter for optimal creaming
Buttermilk can be substituted for extra tenderness
Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to batter for variation
