Ingredients
2 cups strawberries, sliced
1 (14 oz) can vanilla custard, store-bought or homemade
1 (8 oz) can meringue
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
Whisk custard with 1/4 cup sugar until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth
Chill the custard blend in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to thicken
Place a sieve over your mixing bowl to strain out excess liquid before layering
Toss sliced strawberries in a bowl with 1 tbsp lemon juice to preserve color
Divide into ramekins or a single serving dish, pressing gently to remove air pockets
Top with strained custard layer, followed by a generous dollop of meringue
Chill the dessert for at least 30 minutes before serving
Notes
Use frozen strawberries if fresh aren’t available; thaw and let rest for 10 minutes first
For a homemade meringue, beat egg whites and sugar until stiff peaks form
Can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours
Tarts can be assembled in individual serving cups for easy portability
