Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1¾ cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup milk (or buttermilk)
½ cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup hot water or coffee
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch pan.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
4. Gradually add hot water or coffee and stir until smooth.
5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
6. Cool completely before frosting or serving.
Notes
For extra richness, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
Don’t skip the coffee — it enhances the chocolate flavor without tasting like coffee.
Top with chocolate frosting, cream cheese icing, or fruit depending on the occasion.
Freezes well — wrap slices individually for easy defrosting.
