Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk or cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Grease and line a 9×13-inch pan or two 8-inch round pans.
3. Cream butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition.
5. Stir in vanilla extract.
6. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
7. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
8. Mix gently just until combined.
9. Pour batter into prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
10. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
11. Let cool completely before serving or frosting.
Notes
This cake can be made a day ahead and stored at room temperature.
