Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups sugar
¾ cup softened butter
3 large eggs
1 cup milk
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting (your choice)
Optional toppings: berries, sprinkles, flowers
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a square and a round cake pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light.
3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
4. Stir in vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
5. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately, mixing until smooth.
6. Divide batter between the pans and bake 30–35 minutes.
7. Let cakes cool completely. Cut round cake in half.
8. Place square cake like a diamond and attach half circles to top sides.
9. Frost entire heart cake and decorate as desired.
Notes
You can prepare the layers in advance and refrigerate.
For a pink effect, add strawberry or beet powder to the batter.
